We all love petting our dogs…almost as much as they love being petted. So what can an owner do to help ensure their dog’s coat is as healthy and shiny as their personality.
Before we get to the tips, be sure to talk to your vet if you see your dog scratching more than usual. This may require a breed-specific treatment that will help!

Bathe your Dog Regularly

Yes, you can bathe them too often, but this is the greatest way to keep their coat clean. One or two baths a month is probably the best frequency.

Brush your Dog

Every couple of days, find the brush that fits your dog’s hair length and put it to good use. De-shedding brushes are also good if they are heavy shedders. Plus, I don’t think there is a better bonding time with your pup than during a good brushing.

Guard Against Fleas and Ticks

Your dog’s constant scratching and biting may be a parasite. These nasty critters can cause skin damage as well as coat damage.

Keep their Food High Quality

Pay attention to the ingredients that go into your dog’s food. This will keep them healthy as well as their coat shiny. An extra teaspoon of vegetable oil will make their coat glow a bit more. Omega-3 and Omega-6 are both great for your dog’s food. Omega-3 is also great for joint pain. These can also be given as a supplement, just be sure not to go overboard on the amounts. The same goes for herbal supplements like spirulina and horsetail.

Keep their Treats Healthy

Just like food, be sure to keep the treats they receive healthy. Raw carrots are great for their overall health and great for their teeth.

Good luck with the above list! Remember, we love talking about pet care and am here if you ever need some more advice.
